E-WASTE The Sky is the Limit

In our homes, offices, schools, markets...everywhere we are using all kind of electronic gadgets and equipments, life without them is now beyond our imaginations but when they get old or damaged we discard or upgrade them immediately without thinking twice, where is it going anyway from here and what it going to cause to us?

India generated 3,80,000 tonnes of e-waste in the year 2007, which accounts for 1040 tonnes everyday.

E-waste now makes up around 5% of all municipal solid waste worldwide… Continue

DISAPPEARING SPONGES OF THE EARTH PART-2

From coastal swamps to inland floodplains, the Earth has lost over half of its area under wetlands in the last 100 years.

A primary cause behind the loss of this giver of life is the draining or filling for human settlements and agriculture.

Draining of agricultural residue and Industrial wastes into the wetlands also took a huge toll, leading to their decline.

It was during the first half of the twentieth century that we have witnesses the maximum damage especially in the northern hemisphere… Continue

DISAPPEARING SPONGES OF THE EARTH

In just two decades from 1991, an estimated 50% of fresh water wetlands have been lost. These life giver sponges of the earth are disappearing at a rate of 2% to 3% every year.

They are known for a range of services, notably livelihood support , water security, flood prevention, and sustenance of bio diversity.

Yet they remain badly neglected and plundered.

Clearly, actionable rules are vital to stop the life-sapping influx of sewage, industrial waste, pesticides, building debris, and urban so… Continue

THE TIGER STORY PART-7

The world is rapidly moving towards a more environment friendly regime, which is increasingly encompassing all aspects of international relations.

Tigers need to survive and in India today the right to survival is being denied to them.

India cannot afford to be a party to any act that diminishes its international image.

On the other hand India has the ability, means and expertise to tackle the problem promptly and effectively.

The time has come when nothing short of "hands-on" protection aga… Continue

Exhibit of wild animals in Advertisements

In India many advertisers use wild animals on national TV to enthuse the audience. Is it not a crime? The use of animal gives a wrong signal to the viewers who consider animals to be for the entertainment of the masses. Already we are seeing a uncontrollable perilous environmental degradation from all quarters. Is it not high time that the govt curb the usage of animals in advt.

my son's interest in environment

It is very heartening to see enthusiastic parents like you who want to imbibe love for nature in their child.
As a child I think Salman can learn about the flora and fauna ( avian ) in and around his environment and in out country.
Once he starts learning, he will start appreciating the beauty of nature. As he grows old he will understand the environmental degradation caused by the greed of humans. Hopefully he will guide other youngsters to appreciate the beauty of nature.

The need of the hour…
