hi kusha
well i still have lot of birds as everyday visitors and infact lot of live on the tress on my garden! well there can be one solution to this ! we should plant tress in front of out houses.
as this is a law that we nedd to leave some space when we are constructing our homes ! so we can use this place to grow trees! even if we have 1 tree in 1 home that can do wonders! as i have 6 tress in my home and i reall feel like as if i am at a hill station whenever i sit in my balcony!

I still remember my childhood when lovely sparrows and black crows were everyday visitors to our home. Each morning was filled with the chirping of these birds. They used to sing in modulation. But.now this lovely story has been changed drastically. The reason is not an instant one...but an age long adverse effects on the atmosphere and to our immediate surroundings.

But, my question is... what is that single step to this problem which we can take to initiate the preservation. As environment is exactly a chain of many global activities. So, from where we should start our own single effort to ensure the big picture of the environment as a whole.
Kindly suggest...

Actually we want to conserve and protect because we are emotional creatures, and our self conscience tells it... But logically, we are also part of nature only....

Dear Satya and Deb,
Thanks for making the discussion very lively and enriching. See we all agree with the theory of survival of the fittest but is that we all want in life. I am giving you a very simple example, I have a very old gradfather who cant survive on his own, we all help him in different ways, If we dont help him, his days will be numbered. Would you also like to relate this with the survival of the fittest? You know we are humans and we are civilized? I know of several stories of wars and atrocities which were justified in the name of "Survival of the fittest", be it Germany, be it the extinction of the tribals, be it the extinction of some of the very critical life being in the food chain. Do you still feel, it is justified as to what we are doing?

I quote deba, "Tiger killing a deer is OK and Man killing a deer not OK". Dont you think man has grown out of proportion and even eating away the space and resources meant for other animals.

Regards
Shakeb

Dear Debo, I agree with your views. My simple statements are that human is most intelligent and dominating species in the present age then why not he can use his sensibility towards other species! That's what I mean to say.

I m not arguing but my approach is somewhat for the mutual surveillance. Why to kill or destroy other species when it is just for the fun or for the greed of self in any sense.

Tiger kills only when it is hungry. Once it kills, it won't harm the other individual. But on the contrary human kills without control or regulation.

I m working in the field of conservation and found beautiful examples of rules n regulations of killing animals in old days. Now scenario changed, even strict laws are not able to check illegal killings of animals. Therefore, being super species, it is our moral duty to protect the other species.
Debadityo Comment by Debadityo on December 13, 2008 at 8:52pm
Dear SPM,
Humans are dominating.. you yourself answered it.. that we are super species. By dominating resources is the survival of fittest and natural selection! If you say why to dominate, then I will ask which species dont want to dominate other. This is "Gausian exclusion principle" according to which no two species can occur simultaneously in a same niche, the one which is weaker will be excluded. Humans like every animal is running after resources, so is there anything bad?? You can arrest a man for huntinga deer but why not tiger?? We argue that its natural food of tiger, but isnt it can be food for human?

This seems little complex, but if we see nature, then we are just following natural laws to become dominant! Isn't it?

Sweet Plant - Stevia

There's a new kid on the block (well, kind-of new to some of us anyway) ... stevia. This intriguing sweetener is ages old in some parts of the world – mostly South America and China, but relatively new in the U.S. It has no calories, no nothing that can harm you, even if you have diabetes. It is not processed like high-fructose corn syrup or agave nectar, and the final sweetener is totally unharmed in the extracting process.

It is made from a shrub that is relatively easy to grow – that grew to…
