Hi Kunal.. its not 'planktons'.. its actually 'plankton' both singularly and plurally.. :-)
Anyway Memma, did you tried to do something to save the wetlands?? They are really getting encroached... Loss of wetlands means a great loss and a huge dfamage to natural cycle...

wetlands r habitats fr so many planktons waterbodies birds n animals.
i hv visited a wetland named " KABUR JHEEL PAKCHI(BIRD) VIHAR" in bihar. during winter season siberian crane a bird frm siberia comes every year dere. bt due to lac of security n hunting they r decreasing in numbers.

Guwahati City of Assam is endowed with 6 major wetlands, but due to the so called developmental activities in the last decade all the wetlands are encroached and core areas of the wetlands are silted heavily, no more in the condition to perform as natural storage basin of rainwater. Consequently, Guwahati City usually sub-merge under flash flood water even for a short period's heavy rains.

wetlands are kidneys of landscape.... not only biodiversity, they help in cleaning of water, even heavy contaminants, recharge aquifers, retain floodwaters and many things are directly linked to wetlands.. even 2/3rd of world's fish harvest depend on health of wetlands!! So know them...

gr8! plz take action as soon as possible.. a little lethargic attitude can result into a big damage... first make a tream of 2 or 3, and have conversations with localites about it.. do it in your free time, but try to make people aware more about wetlands, and why it should be conserved.. take care that people should see some economical benefits also... things are very difficult when u start talking with people....its a great challenge for u.. just do it! 99 % people dont know what importance a wetland holds... let make a change... all the best..

Neha, we appreciate your concern for Udaisagar Lake. Do contact media persons. I am receiving regular calls from those persons to write on the issue. Unfortunately due to overburden of the work, I could not able to concentrate right now.

I request you to collect the youth team along with the Department of Environmental Sciences faculties and do send the protest letters to the local administration. Try to involve local public which will be great to put pressure on the policy makers.

But you know it will require patience. In the beginning no one will come with you. If you are taking leading then start it as one man army. Karvan to banta chala jayega.

Once you start let me know I will call all our force to support and join you in Udaipur. I along with Sarita will always be there with you.
