WE SHOULD DO THE FOLLOWING:
1.USE MINIMAL QUANTITY OF WATER FOR CLEANING FLOORS, WASHING CLOTHES( THINK THE CONDITION OF THE PEOPLE OF RAJASTHAN)
2.OPERATE THE TAPS AT A LOW FLOW RATE.
3.ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME.

Some facts about water crisis-
1- According to World water resources institute, at present time 2.3 billion population in the World passing through horrible water crisis.
2- According to International Atomic Energy Agency every year 50 million people died from polluted drinking water. And this figure is 10 multiple than war casualty.
3- Do we know, our water consumption in toilet flushing is about 39% of the day consumption and this is maximum water consumption in the day. Can we do minimize this?

Water consumption in toilets can be reduced if you use Indian toilets instead of western toilets....reason is, everytime you go for a piss in western toilet you will flush, but if you are using an Indian toilet you need not flush everytime....it can be flushed after 3-4 rounds... what say?

i was trying to work on a prototype of a foot operated tap. the tap lets water flow only when a pressure plate is stepped on.

i spoke to a few people about it, but its not been feasible so far. if nay one has any ideas it would be great to try and develop this!

I know water is precious but here near my resident there are many illiterate people either dont know imp of water or they r doing as such.Near my area there r many houses where drinking water is available only in morning for 2 to 3 hr.People use to fetch water to their home. But the thing is there are no taps, there are only open pipes through which water flow continuously for 2 to 3 hr.Instead of taps, open pipes are available in compound of every resident .I feel too bad i cant do anything I feel helpless because there is total loss of water, sometime i feel to have some photos or videos so that i can display it to others.Hence atleast they will be shame of their deeds but where i live is a rural-type area.so i m afraid of doing so ....or It will be proper to do...Pl. help me..

Hello Ashwini, I think you should explain the resident about the scarcity of water. You should also tell them about the dangers which will originate by this scarcity. If you can motivate them I am sure that they will use tap on open pipes. For more facts about water scarcity you can see a power point presentation in my comment on this group’s comment wall.

Hi Ashwini, I am adding some information about water harvesting system. I think it would be useful for you. You can see a image of this system on this group's main page also.
Rain Water Harvesting System
A rainwater harvesting system comprises components of various stages-
1-Catchments-The catchment of a water harvesting system is the surface which directly receives the rain fall and provides water to the system.
2-Coarsh mesh- At the roof, this prevents the passage of debris.

3-Gutters- Channels all around the edge of a sloping roof to collect and transport rain water to the storage tank. Gutter could be made by plain galvanized iron sheet folded to semi circular or rectangular shape. It also could be made by cutting PVC pipe into two equal semicircular channels.
Gutters need to be supported so that they do not sag or fall off when loaded with water. It is advisable that make gutters 10-15% oversize to the highest intensity of rainfall.
4-Conduits- This is a channel of pipe line made by PVC or iron that carry rainwater from the catchment to the storage tank
5-First flushing- This device is a valve that ensures that runoff the first spell of rain is flushed
out and does not enter into system. This is because of the first spell of rain carries relatively large amount of pollutant from the air and catchment surface.
6-Filter- Filter is used to remove dirt, debris and other suspended pollutants from rain water collected from catchment. Filter can be divided into two types-
(1)-Charcoal water filter- This can be made in a drum or earthen pot by gravel, sand and charcoal.
(2)-Sand filter-This is very easy to make and also inexpensive. Its top layer comprises coarse sand followed by a layer of gravel and then by 5-25cm layer of gravel and boulders. This filter can be employed for effectively remove of suspended particles, colours and microorganisms.
7-Storage facility- For storage the storage tank could be constructed above ground, partly underground or fully underground. Cleaning and disinfection are required to ensure the good quality of water in the tank. This tank could be made of RCC or plastic or metal.
8-Recharge structure-Rain water may be charge into the ground water through dug wells, bore wells, recharge trenches or pits. For this purpose existing wells, pits and tanks can be modified as recharge structure.

Sweet Plant - Stevia

There's a new kid on the block (well, kind-of new to some of us anyway) ... stevia. This intriguing sweetener is ages old in some parts of the world – mostly South America and China, but relatively new in the U.S. It has no calories, no nothing that can harm you, even if you have diabetes. It is not processed like high-fructose corn syrup or agave nectar, and the final sweetener is totally unharmed in the extracting process.

It is made from a shrub that is relatively easy to grow – that grew to…
