Earth Matters

Save mother earth!

Many environmental organizations provide guidelines and reference information for how to sustain the web of life by creating habitat for wildlife in your yard. A small space can do a lot for the larger global environment by providing habitat for wildlife including pollinating insects, birds, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and native plants and trees.

When you provide these five features, in a form that grows from nature, in your yard, you are helping to sew back the fabric in the web of life:

1. Places to bear & raise young

2. Cover/Shelter

3. Water sources

4. food (in the form of what is natural that will live in your area)

5. Making sure there is a 'transitional zone' of tall grass, shrubs, vines and the general tangle that grows (if not removed) between lawn and woods. It is very important to allow this feature to grow because it is what sews 'the web of life' together. It is usually groomed because of it's messy appearance. This is exactly what wildlife need and suffer without having.

Here's is one site that describes the four features. The fifth feature should be there. Very important!

Exhibit of wild animals in Advertisements

In India many advertisers use wild animals on national TV to enthuse the audience. Is it not a crime? The use of animal gives a wrong signal to the viewers who consider animals to be for the entertainment of the masses. Already we are seeing a uncontrollable perilous environmental degradation from all quarters. Is it not high time that the govt curb the usage of animals in advt.

my son's interest in environment

It is very heartening to see enthusiastic parents like you who want to imbibe love for nature in their child.
As a child I think Salman can learn about the flora and fauna ( avian ) in and around his environment and in out country.
Once he starts learning, he will start appreciating the beauty of nature. As he grows old he will understand the environmental degradation caused by the greed of humans. Hopefully he will guide other youngsters to appreciate the beauty of nature.

The need of the hour…
